People's Loyal Coalition Fights Back Against IEBC Bias and Early Election Chao sissues a strong condemnation of the ongoing recruitment process for the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) and the early election campaigns led by the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) and the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM).
Addressing the press Kalonzo expressed deep concerns over what they claim is an attempt by President William Ruto’s administration to capture the electoral body. The coalition accused the IEBC Selection Panel of bias, citing the inclusion of individuals with clear political affiliations in the shortlist of candidates. Among them is Joy Midivo, a known UDA official, and Katwa Kigen, a personal advocate of President Ruto—both of whom, PLC argues, have glaring conflicts of interest.
“This is a great betrayal of young Kenyans who fought for an independent IEBC,” the statement read, referencing recent protests calling for electoral justice. The opposition coalition is demanding transparency in the selection process, urging that only impartial and qualified individuals be appointed.
Adding fuel to the fire, PLC also decried what they called “violent early election campaigns” conducted by the UDA-ODM alliance. According to the coalition, recent political rallies in Nairobi were marred by chaos, with gangs engaging in robbery sprees under police protection. In a scathing remark, PLC dismissed Ruto’s populist tactics, including a bizarre promise to distribute millions of free chapatis, as “preposterous.”
The opposition also raised alarm over the Nairobi City County’s declaration of the Nairobi River Corridor as a Special Planning Area (SPA), warning that the move could impact private landowners and alter the city’s demographics. PLC vowed to resist any unconstitutional land acquisitions.
With tensions rising and the 2027 elections looming, Kenya finds itself at a crossroads, where the battle for electoral integrity and political fairness is shaping up to be a defining moment for the nation.
