Kalonzo Musyoka Criticizes IEBC Recruitment, Warns Against Early Campaigning

By Musyoka

Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka has strongly criticized the ongoing recruitment of new commissioners for the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC), citing concerns over transparency and fairness in the process.

Speaking to the media, Musyoka accused the government of attempting to influence the composition of the electoral body ahead of the 2027 General Election. He emphasized the need for an impartial and credible selection process to uphold public trust in Kenya’s elections.

“The integrity of our elections depends on an independent IEBC. Any attempt to manipulate the recruitment process will undermine democracy,” Musyoka stated.

The former vice president also took issue with political leaders engaging in early campaigns, arguing that such actions divert attention from governance and service delivery. He urged leaders to prioritize addressing pressing national issues like the rising cost of living and unemployment instead of premature electioneering.

“We cannot afford to start campaigns this early while Kenyans are struggling with high living costs and unemployment. Let’s serve the people first,” he added.

Musyoka’s remarks come amid growing political tensions as various leaders position themselves for the 2027 elections. His call for fairness and accountability in the IEBC recruitment process is expected to spark further debate among political stakeholders.
