Otiende Amollo Credits Sister Elizabeth Ongoro for Paying His School Fees and Shaping His Education Journey
By Irene Mwende
Rarieda Member of Parliament Otiende Amollo has warmly acknowledged the crucial role his elder sister, Elizabeth Ongoro, played in shaping his academic journey and ultimately his successful career.
Speaking during recent remarks, Amollo shared a heartfelt reflection on how Ongoro supported him during his early years in school, noting that her sacrifices helped lay the foundation for his future.
According to the legislator, Ongoro personally took him to Class One while the family was living in Maseno, marking the beginning of his formal education. He recalled that their bond has always been strong and that she continued supporting him even as she pursued her own studies.
Amollo revealed that while he was studying at Maranda High School, Ongoro used part of her university allowance—popularly known at the time as “Boom”—to pay part of his school fees.
“We are very close. She is the one who took me to Class One those years back. At the time we were living in Maseno. She took me to class, and by the time she joined the university, she actually paid part of my school fees in Maranda using what was called Boom then. That was very helpful, and we have always been very close,” Amollo said.
The Rarieda MP’s remarks highlighted the importance of family support in shaping opportunities through education. His story also reflects the sacrifices many families make to ensure their loved ones access quality education and achieve their dreams.
Ongoro, who previously served as the Member of Parliament for Kasarani, has also spoken publicly about her own sacrifices in national politics, including selling some of her personal properties to support the presidential campaigns of Raila Odinga.
Amollo’s tribute paints a powerful picture of sibling support, resilience, and the transformative power of education in changing lives.
