Yatta MP Robert Basil Boosts School Feeding Programme to Strengthen Learning and Child Welfare
Yatta Mp Robert Basil has reaffirmed his commitment to improving the welfare and education of children by supporting the School Feeding Programme with a donation of 260 bags of beans and 300 bags of rice.
Basil noted that hunger remains a major barrier to education, particularly in rural areas where many families struggle to provide consistent meals. He said the feeding programme aims to improve school attendance, boost concentration in class, and create a supportive environment where every pupil has an equal opportunity to succeed.
“A well-fed child is a focused learner. When we ensure our pupils have access to nutritious meals, we strengthen their ability to learn and build a better future,” he said.
Teachers and parents welcomed the initiative, saying it will ease the burden on households and encourage more children to remain in school. School administrators also observed that feeding programmes have historically contributed to improved academic performance and reduced absenteeism.
The MP described the initiative as more than a food donation, terming it an investment in dignity, opportunity, and the future of the community. He pledged continued support for education-focused programmes and called on stakeholders to collaborate in strengthening learning institutions.
Community leaders praised the effort, noting that sustained school feeding programmes play a vital role in improving child welfare while promoting long-term social and economic development.
With ongoing efforts to strengthen education standards, the programme is expected to positively impact hundreds of learners across Yatta, reinforcing the link between nutrition, academic success, and community progress.
