Thuranira Backs Isiolo University Students, Calls for Peaceful Dialogue Amid Rising Insecurity

By Irene Mwende

Mwenda Thuranira has voiced strong support for university students who have raised alarm over rising insecurity and the continued loss of innocent lives in the region, saying their concerns mirror the pain and fear felt across local communities.

Speaking as a leader and stakeholder from Isiolo County, Thuranira said the students’ voices represent a collective cry for safety, justice, and stability. He emphasized that insecurity has not only claimed lives but has also disrupted education, livelihoods, and social cohesion.

“I fully support their call for peaceful dialogue over violence and share their vision of a secure and stable Isiolo where every life truly matters,” Thuranira said. He added that lasting peace can only be achieved through inclusive engagement rather than confrontation.

Thuranira reaffirmed his commitment to actively engage authorities, community leaders, and development partners in pursuit of sustainable solutions that promote peaceful coexistence. He noted that collaboration between government institutions and local communities is critical in addressing the root causes of insecurity.

“Our students deserve an environment that supports their learning, growth, and dreams without fear,” he said, stressing that safeguarding education is inseparable from safeguarding lives. “We must protect not
only their lives, but also their future.”

He concluded by underscoring that peace is not a luxury but a necessity, describing it as the foundation upon which education, development, and unity are built. Thuranira urged all stakeholders to reject violence and rally behind dialogue-driven approaches to restore calm and confidence in Isiolo County.
