PS Teresia Mbaika Courts World Bank Backing to Accelerate Aviation and Infrastructure Development

Principal Secretary for Aviation and Aerospace Development, Teresia Mbaika, has reaffirmed the government’s commitment to strengthening strategic partnerships with the World Bank to accelerate growth in Kenya’s aviation and infrastructure sectors.

Speaking after chairing a high-level meeting with senior World Bank officials and key stakeholders in the infrastructure sector, PS Mbaika described the discussions as productive and forward-looking, particularly as the country prepares for the modernization of Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA).

“The World Bank remains a vital strategic partner in Kenya’s development journey. Its historic support for transformative projects such as the Northern Corridor demonstrates the impact of strong collaboration. We are now exploring similar partnerships to unlock growth in aviation and aerospace development,” she said.
The meeting brought together World Bank representatives Joseph Sasia and Megersu Abate, alongside officials from the Ministry of Roads and Transport, the State Department for Aviation and Aerospace Development, the Kenya Civil Aviation Authority (KCAA), and the Kenya Airports Authority (KAA).

Discussions centered on potential areas of collaboration, including infrastructure financing, modernization of airport facilities, enhancement of regulatory frameworks, and capacity-building initiatives to strengthen sector delivery. The stakeholders emphasized the need for sustainable investment models that will position Kenya as a regional aviation hub.

PS Mbaika noted that the aviation sector remains a key anchor of Kenya’s economic growth agenda, supporting trade, tourism, investment, and job creation. She underscored the importance of aligning infrastructure expansion with global standards and emerging technologies in aerospace development.

“The modernization of JKIA is not just about expanding infrastructure; it is about strengthening Kenya’s competitiveness, improving passenger experience, and unlocking new economic opportunities,” she added.

The engagement signals renewed momentum in leveraging multilateral partnerships to support Kenya’s long-term infrastructure ambitions, with aviation expected to play a central role in driving regional connectivity and economic transformation.
