Stop Misleading Kenyans on Article 29,” Kitui MP Irene Kasalu Blasts Wamuchomba Over Nyeri Church Attack Claims

Kitui Woman Representative Dr. Irene Kasalu has sharply rebuked Githunguri MP Gathoni Wamuchomba over her claims linking former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua to firearms, ammunition, and tear gas canisters allegedly used during the recent Nyeri church attack.

Speaking in a strongly worded statement, Dr. Kasalu accused Wamuchomba of deliberately misinterpreting the Constitution to score political points, insisting that Article 29 of the Constitution of Kenya is explicit on matters relating to freedom and security of the person.
“If you truly understand Article 29, then stop misleading the public,” Kasalu said, arguing that the provision clearly safeguards citizens from arbitrary violence and unlawful use of force, and does not support the conclusions being drawn against Gachagua.

The Kitui MP emphasized that serious security incidents such as the Nyeri church attack must be handled through lawful investigations by competent authorities, not through public speculation or political rhetoric.

Dr. Kasalu warned that making unsubstantiated claims about ownership of weapons risks inflaming public emotions, undermining due process, and eroding trust in constitutional governance.
“This country is governed by the rule of law. Allegations must be backed by evidence and tested through proper legal channels, not trial by public opinion,” she stated.
Her remarks add to the growing political debate surrounding the Nyeri incident, as leaders trade accusations and counter-accusations while Kenyans await official findings from security agencies.
