PS Teressia Mbaika Rallies Kenya Airways Staff to Uphold National Pride and Build a Resilient, Innovative Airline
Principal Secretary Teressia Mbaika joined Kenya Airways staff during the 2026 Staff Town-Hall opener held at the Pride Centre, bringing together employees from Nairobi and all other global stations in a hybrid meeting that underscored unity, national pride, and the future of the national carrier.
PS Mbaika called on staff to remain inspired by the unique and critical role they play in projecting Kenya’s image globally. She noted that by keeping Kenya Airways in the skies, employees serve as the primary custodians of a living national symbol that continues to connect Kenya to the world.
The Principal Secretary encouraged staff to embrace the ongoing leadership transition at the airline, assuring them of continued government support. She challenged the workforce to remain innovative, adaptable, and steadfast in their commitment to building a strong and resilient airline capable of competing effectively on the global stage.
PS Mbaika reaffirmed that Kenya Airways remains a strategic national asset and a cornerstone of Kenya’s economic and social development. Beyond its core mandate of air transport, she emphasized that the airline directly and indirectly supports thousands of livelihoods across aviation and related industries, with its economic impact extending far beyond the airport fence into the broader economy.
She further noted that the government continues to prioritize the positioning of Jomo Kenyatta International Airport as a leading regional aviation hub. Planned investments in infrastructure modernization, safety oversight, and service efficiency are aimed at cementing
Nairobi’s status as a preferred gateway to Africa. A strong, stable, and competitive Kenya Airways, she said, is central to this vision through its expansive networks, strategic partnerships, operational expertise, and strong brand presence across the continent and beyond.
The meeting was hosted by Acting Chief Executive Officer George Kamal alongside the Kenya Airways Executive Committee. Also in attendance were Somas Appavou, IATA Regional Director, and Moore Ibekwa, Boeing Sales Director for the Africa Region, both representing institutions that are strategic partners of the airline.
The town hall meeting set a clear tone for 2026, reaffirming a shared commitment between government, management, and staff to strengthen Kenya Airways as a resilient national carrier and a key driver of Kenya’s global connectivity and economic growth.
