Athi River Primary and Junior School was filled with optimism and purpose as Machakos County officially launched the Free Sanitary Pads Program for all primary and junior schools across the county.
The initiative, spearheaded by Machakos Woman Representative Joyce Kamene, marks a significant milestone in promoting girls’ education, dignity, and equality. By ensuring access to sanitary products, the program aims to eliminate absenteeism linked to menstrual health challenges and empower girls to attend school with confidence.
Speaking during the launch, Joyce Kamene emphasized that no girl should be forced to miss class because of a natural biological process. She noted that the program is a critical step toward creating a supportive and inclusive learning environment where every child has an equal opportunity to succeed.
The event brought together headteachers, education stakeholders, representatives from the Ministry of Education, and members of the local community, all united by a shared commitment to safeguarding the future of young learners.
Kamene expressed gratitude to school administrations, government partners, and all stakeholders who continue to support initiatives focused on the welfare and empowerment of children. She reaffirmed her dedication to championing programs that uplift girls and strengthen the education sector across Machakos County.
The Free Sanitary Pads Program stands as a powerful reminder that investing in girls’ health and education is an investment in a brighter, more inclusive future for the entire county.
