Pomp and Colour as President Ruto Rolls Out KFCB’s Cine-Mobile Truck to Empower Grassroots Creatives

KAKAMEGA, Kenya – President William Ruto has officially rolled out the Kenya Film Classification Board’s (KFCB) high-tech Cine-Mobile Truck, a landmark project aimed at transforming Kenya’s film industry from the grassroots up.

The launch took place on Tuesday during the International Youth Day celebrations at Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology, Kakamega County, in the presence of KFCB officials, government leaders, and youth representatives.

President Ruto praised KFCB for driving the initiative, noting that it will give young creatives a platform to showcase their work, earn from their talent, and promote Kenya’s cultural heritage.

“This project will not only nurture talent in rural areas but also expand opportunities for our youth to thrive in the creative economy,” said the President.

The Cine-Mobile Truck, a flagship under the #SinemaMashinani programme, is fitted with a 63-square-metre LED screen mounted on a hydraulic lift system, a dedicated generator, and a high-capacity sound system that can serve up to 800 people.
Through #SinemaMashinani, KFCB seeks to bridge the gap in film content classification, increase access to screening facilities, and encourage the creation of clean, values-driven content. The initiative also aims to create sustainable jobs and boost wealth generation in line with the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA).

The mobile cinema project will work hand-in-hand with the Nairobi Film Centre to expand film exhibition across the country, taking Kenyan stories directly to communities and inspiring the next generation of filmmakers.
