Philip K. Murgor Elected Senior Counsel Bar Chairperson in New Leadership Line-Up

The Senior Counsel Bar (SCB) has ushered in a new era of leadership with the election of Philip K. Murgor, SC, as Chairperson, Joyce Majiwa, SC, as Vice-Chairperson, and Charles Kanjama, SC, as Secretary. The trio was overwhelmingly endorsed by the Senior Counsel fraternity through a consensus nomination process and formally installed during the SCB’s annual retreat at the Diamond Leisure Lodge in Diani on Wednesday, August 13, 2025.

Mr. Murgor succeeds Dr. Fred Ojiambo, SC, who has retired after a distinguished tenure that began in 2013 when he took over from the late Hon. Mutula Kilonzo, SC. Dr. Ojiambo’s leadership team comprised the late Zahir Malik, SC, the late Ken Fraser, SC, and Omesh Kapila, SC. Following the passing of Mr. Malik and Mr. Fraser, and Mr. Kapila’s retirement, Mr. Murgor stepped in as interim Vice-Chair and Organizing Secretary, a role he handled with zeal and dedication. Later, Lucy Muthoni Kambuni, SC, served as Secretary until her retirement, paving the way for Mr. Kanjama’s appointment.

The SCB, formed in 2003, had its inaugural chairmanship under Hon. Sitswila Amos Wako, SC, EGH, the Attorney-General Emeritus. The newly elected leadership team has pledged to uphold the traditions, values, and professional excellence of the Senior Counsel Bar.

By irene Mwende  A coalition of concerned Kenyans, farmers, consumers, and activists has come together under the banner of Kilimo Cha Haki to resist a series of agricultural bills currently under debate in Kenya's 13th Parliament. These bills, nine in total, are seen as a direct threat to Kenya’s food security and sovereignty, and the movement warns they could have devastating consequences for the country’s agricultural sector, which contributes over 80% to the nation’s GDP. By irene Mwende  Mohammed Dagar, the Principal Secretary for the State Department of Transport, presided over the 61st Graduation Ceremony of the Railway Training Institute (RTI) for the academic years 2022-2023 and 2023-2024.  The event, held at RTI—an integral division of Kenya Railways Corporation under the State Department for Transport—marked a significant milestone in Kenya's transport and education sectors. RTI, one of the country’s oldest institutions, provides specialized and affordable training in rail transportation, a key pillar of Kenya’s infrastructure development.
