Nairobi Hospital Reaffirms Stability, Governance Reforms, and Patient-Centred Commitment

The Nairobi Hospital has moved to dispel recent public speculation by reaffirming its strong financial footing, ongoing governance reforms, and unwavering commitment to delivering world-class healthcare.

Addressing a joint press conference of the Board of Management and the Board of Trustees, the hospital leadership emphasised that the petition filed by creditor Opticom Kenya Ltd remains a legal matter under active contest in court. They assured the public that all staff salaries, supplier obligations, and critical investments continue to be met without disruption.

Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Felix Osano, highlighted the hospital’s financial prudence, citing KSh 1.5 billion in recent infrastructure upgrades funded entirely from internally generated revenues, without reliance on loans. “Our continuing modernisation programme is clear evidence of prudent financial stewardship,” he said.

The upgrades include six state-of-the-art labour and delivery suites, a 256-slice AI-enabled CT scanner, and a pioneering Cardiac Centre housing East and Central Africa’s first biplane catheterisation laboratory within a laminar flow theatre suite. “Each of these projects expands our clinical capacity, improves patient outcomes, and reinforces our leadership in specialised care,” Mr. Osano added.

On the matter of tariff adjustments, the CEO confirmed that a marginal 5% increase introduced in July was suspended following constructive discussions with insurance partners. Patients are now accessing services at pre-adjustment rates. “This was a decision rooted in goodwill and a commitment to patient-centred care,” Mr. Osano explained.

Board Chairman, Dr. Barcley Onyambu, acknowledged that some past board decisions had undermined fiduciary responsibility, exposing the hospital to risk. However, he assured that the current leadership is united in strengthening governance, accountability, and prudent decision-making. He noted that recent court-imposed restrictions had been lifted, allowing the hospital to move forward with reforms unimpeded.

The hospital reiterated its pledge to continue delivering “healthcare with a difference,” guided by transparency, sound governance, and patient
