Kalonzo Warns of “Rogue Regime” Threat to Kenya’s Constitution, Urges Lawyers to Defend Rule of Law

Former Vice President Kalonzo Musyoka has sounded a stark warning that Kenya is facing “unprecedented state repression” threatening to erode constitutionalism and the rule of law. 

Speaking at the Law Society of Kenya’s Annual Conference, at Mombasa he  accused the current administration of abductions, torture, and the persecution of young protesters as terrorists for exercising their constitutional freedoms.


"As we speak, members of the Bar receive frantic calls from relatives searching for abducted Kenyans—most of them under 30—whose only crime was voicing their shock and rage over a renegade state,” Musyoka said. 

“This is repression unlike anything experienced in our 62 years of independence.” He added 

He praised the Law Society for its unwavering defence of victims’ rights, describing the organisation as “a beacon of conscience” at a time when elements of Parliament, state agencies, sections of the Church, and parts of the Opposition have
