Nairobi, Kenya, August 19, 2025 – Huawei, in partnership with Hiperdist, KCB Foundation, and Digion/Smatrace Solutions Ltd., has hosted a Smart Classroom Workshop at its Nairobi premises, showcasing how technology can revolutionize education in underserved schools across the country.

The event brought together representatives from 20 Muslim schools exploring the adoption of the Huawei Smart Classroom Solution, an innovative digital platform designed to enhance interactivity, accessibility, and learning outcomes.

Held at the Huawei Exhibition Room, the workshop featured live demonstrations, school engagement sessions, and hands-on experiences with Smart Classroom tools. Participants explored ways to integrate digital learning environments into their institutions.

“At Huawei, we believe technology should be an equalizer,” said Maureen Mwaniki, Public Affairs Director, Huawei Kenya. “Our Smart Classroom Solution is designed not just to digitize education, but to democratize it—ensuring students from all backgrounds, including underserved communities, have access to world-class learning environments.”

A key highlight was the announcement that Steadfast Academy will become the first reference school in Kenya to implement the Smart Classroom Solution, setting a precedent for other institutions.

Echoing this vision, Ms. Virginia Mwangi, SME Specialist & Relationship Manager for SMEs & Learning Institutes at KCB, emphasized KCB’s role in supporting inclusive, future-focused education. “We are passionate about the transformative power of technology in revolutionising key aspects of our lives, especially education. By embracing innovation, we aim to unlock new opportunities, bridge gaps, and empower the next generation to thrive in a digital future.”

The initiative builds on Huawei’s broader DigiSchool Connectivity Project, delivered in collaboration with UNESCO and government partners. Earlier this year, the program’s Phase II connected 21 schools, including six for learners with special needs, benefitting more than 10,000 students. Phase I had already reached 6,000 learners in 13 schools.

Evaluation of the program showed tangible impact:

98% of students said internet access met their educational needs.

84% found learning more engaging.

71% reported a better understanding of complex concepts.

The Smart Classroom Workshop directly supports Kenya’s Digital Superhighway Agenda and Vision 2030, while advancing the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs):

SDG 4 – Quality Education through equitable access to learning.

SDG 9 – Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure by fostering digital learning infrastructure.

SDG 10 – Reduced Inequalities by bridging the digital divide.

SDG 17 – Partnerships for the Goals through multi-sector collaboration.

Ms. Mwaniki reiterated Huawei’s mission: “The Smart Classroom solution demonstrates our commitment to deploying innovative technologies that connect people and empower student.
