Government Rolls out NYOTA AGPO Digital Training to Unlock KSh300 Billion Government Tender Opportunities for Youth

Principal Secretary for the State Department for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Development, Susan Mang’eni, has called on young entrepreneurs, women and persons with disabilities to take advantage of the newly launched NYOTA AGPO Digital Training Programme to access government procurement opportunities worth billions of shillings.

Speaking during the rollout on November 4, 2026, Mang’eni said the programme is designed to equip beneficiaries with the skills, knowledge and business linkages needed to compete for government tenders.

She noted that the government has reserved at least 30 per cent of its annual procurement budget for enterprises owned by youth, women and persons with disabilities. With the national budget estimated at KSh4.8 trillion.

"The available procurement opportunities are projected at not less than KSh1 trillion, translating to at least KSh300 billion under the AGPO arrangement."Ps said

However, she observed that uptake remains low due to limited awareness, complicated application procedures, inadequate business formalisation and low enterprise readiness.

Mang’eni said the free training programme is expected to benefit more than 600,000 young entrepreneurs and expand NYOTA's overall reach to over 820,000 beneficiaries.

"The training will run for 10 weeks through five self-paced modules covering AGPO certification, tender preparation, government electronic procurement systems, contract execution, financing and business management."She added

Participants who complete the course will receive proficiency certificates, while those without registered businesses will be linked to Business Registration Services to facilitate registration. The government is also developing mechanisms to enable AGPO contractors to discount invoices within 60 days after delivery, alongside measures to improve prompt payment and access to trade financing. Eligible applicants can enrol by dialling the free USSD code \*254#, selecting NYOTA AGPO and following the registration instructions. Mang’eni urged eligible Kenyans across the country to embrace the initiative and position their enterprises to benefit from government procurement opportunities
