Kisumu to Establish Telemedicine Centre at Lumumba Hospital to Boost Digital Healthcare

Kisumu County is set to establish a Telemedicine and Smart Monitoring Centre at Lumumba Sub-County Hospital in a move aimed at improving access to quality healthcare through digital technology.

Incoming Kisumu Governor Matthew Owili said the initiative, being undertaken in partnership with Global Telehealth Networks (GTN), will connect 35 medical facilities into a coordinated primary healthcare network.

The state-of-the-art facility will support the diagnosis and management of chronic illnesses, strengthen patient monitoring and expand access to specialised medical services.

The project will begin with a one-year pilot programme supported by GTN, with the aim of bringing healthcare services closer to residents and improving early detection of medical conditions.
Owili made the remarks following discussions with GTN Chief Executive Officer Dr. Jack Higgins, alongside Kisumu County Executive Committee Member for Health Dr. Gregory Ganda, on areas of collaboration.

He said the partnership would help leverage digital innovation to strengthen healthcare delivery and ensure more residents benefit from timely diagnosis, coordinated treatment and improved management of chronic diseases.
