Forest Service Chief Lemarkoko Calls for Stronger Cybersecurity to Protect Government Systems

Chief Conservator of Forests Alex Lemarkoko has called for stronger cybersecurity preparedness among public and private sector organisations, warning that cyberattacks targeting government websites and information technology systems could disrupt essential operations.

Speaking during a cybersecurity summit organised by Safaricom, which brought together chief executive officers and heads of ICT from across the country, Lemarkoko emphasised the need for organisations to strengthen their digital security systems, prevent cyber threats and develop effective recovery mechanisms to ensure continuity of operations.

The Kenya Forest Service (KFS) chief noted that cybersecurity preparedness is critical in protecting institutional systems and ensuring organisations can respond effectively to digital disruptions.
On the sidelines of the summit, Lemarkoko held discussions with Safaricom Chief Executive Officer Dr. Peter Ndegwa on ongoing collaboration between the two organisations in forest conservation.

Lemarkoko was accompanied by KFS ICT Manager Stephen Cheboi and his Personal Assistant, Wilson Tonkei, during the engagement, which highlighted both the importance of digital security and continued cooperation in environmental conservation.
