STANDARD CHARTERED LAUNCHES NEW INVESTMENT PLATFORM AS KENYA’S WEALTH MARKET GROWS

Standard Chartered has launched a new investment platform in Kenya, giving eligible sophisticated investors access to professionally managed global investment strategies across multiple markets and asset classes.

The Standard Chartered Funds VCC – Signature Select has received approval from the Capital Markets Authority (CMA) and brings together leading global fund managers under a single, flexible investment framework. The platform is designed to provide investors with diversified portfolios and access to specialist global investment opportunities.
According to Standard Chartered, Kenya’s wealth market is becoming increasingly sophisticated, with an estimated 7,000 US-dollar millionaires and growing demand for diversified portfolios, global opportunities and professionally managed investment strategies.

“Standard Chartered Funds VCC – Signature Select represents a more sophisticated model of investment access for Kenya,” said Edith Chumba, Head of Wealth & Retail Banking, Kenya & East Africa, Standard Chartered, noting that the platform combines the expertise of global fund managers with the bank’s asset-class specialists to develop custom-curated strategies.

Unlike a single investment fund, the Variable Capital Company structure can accommodate multiple funds and investment strategies within one framework, allowing investment solutions to evolve as investor needs and market opportunities change.

Four strategies are currently available in Kenya: Enhanced Gold Income by Allianz, APAC Allocation Plus by BlackRock, US Allocation by T. Rowe Price, and Global Income Plus by Pimco. The platform has already accumulated USD20 million in assets under management within four months of its launch.

The platform is supported by Standard Chartered’s investment professionals, who oversee manager selection and due diligence, while appointed sub-investment managers handle investment decisions and day-to-day portfolio management.

The bank said the platform is available to eligible Sophisticated Investors and reflects the growing demand for specialist expertise, broader diversification and access to global strategies in Kenya.

The Signature Select platform is being launched simultaneously in Kenya and Nigeria, expanding Standard Chartered’s efforts to connect African investors with global investment opportunities and expertise.
