NPS MAPS ELECTION VIOLENCE HOTSPOTS AS KENYA STEPS UP 2027 SECURITY PREPARATIONS

The National Police Service (NPS) has commenced an intelligence-led mapping exercise to identify areas vulnerable to election-related violence ahead of the 2027 General Election. Deputy Inspector General of Police Gilbert Masengeli said the initiative will enable security agencies to identify potential hotspots early and strengthen preventive measures to protect the public.

Speaking during the National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC) National Stakeholders Conference on Peace Ahead of the 2027 Elections, Masengeli warned that political hooliganism, gangs and sponsored violence will not be tolerated. He urged politicians to stop using young people as shields for political interests, while assuring Kenyans that police interventions will be lawful and guided by intelligence.

Masengeli also condemned the violence reported during a political gathering in Embu County on Saturday, where two people were feared dead and several vehicles reportedly set ablaze. He said a crackdown had been launched to apprehend those involved, while Registrar of Political Parties John Cox Lorionokou warned that political parties could be held accountable where their allied politicians are linked to sponsored violence.
