KAWAYA BACKS GOVERNMENT’S UNIVERSAL UNIVERSITY FUNDING PLAN, SAYS NO STUDENT SHOULD MISS EDUCATION OVER FEES

Mwala MP Vincent Kawaya has welcomed the Government’s proposed Universal Access and Funding Framework, saying it could help ensure that qualified Kenyan students access university and tertiary education regardless of their family’s financial circumstances.

 Kawaya said the proposed model, which would provide Government-backed financing covering the approved cost of education, would reduce the burden on families struggling to raise fees upfront and give more young people an opportunity to pursue higher education.
Speaking during the handover of a school bus to St. Mary’s Secondary School, Kithangaini, Kawaya said the proposed system would largely rely on education loans, with graduates expected to repay the loan component after completing their studies and securing employment. 

He said repayments would be capped at 25 per cent of earnings, describing the reforms as an investment in Kenya’s youth and a step towards ensuring that a student’s access to university is not determined by the financial status of their parents.
