INCOMING KISUMU GOVERNOR MATTHEW OWILI HAILS RUTO’S DEVELOPMENT AGENDA AS SH.44 BILLION HOUSING PROJECT, WATER AND ROAD INVESTMENTS TAKE SHAPE

 Incoming Kisumu Governor  Matthew owili has commended President William Samoei Ruto for placing Kisumu at the centre of the Government’s transformative development agenda, citing major investments in water, sanitation, roads, housing, aviation and support for small-scale traders.

The Incoming Governor expressed gratitude for the commissioning of the Sh8.4 billion Lake Victoria Water and Sanitation Project in Kisumu City, saying the investment will strengthen access to reliable water and sanitation services for residents. The county leadership also welcomed the Sh314 million ultra-modern Air Traffic Control Tower at Kisumu International Airport, which is expected to enhance aviation operations and strengthen Kisumu’s position as a regional transport and economic hub.

Other key projects highlighted include the 12-kilometre Rabuor–Chiga Road in Nyando Constituency, valued at Sh962 million, which will provide an alternative link between Kondele and the Kisumu–Ahero Road at Rabuor Market. The Deputy Governor also pointed to the Sh44 billion Affordable Housing Programme, set to deliver 12,000 housing units, 20 modern markets and student hostels with a capacity of 12,000 beds.

The county leadership further welcomed the construction of the Chemelil–Muhoroni Junction Road, forming part of the Sh15.7 billion Kisumu–Chemelil–Muhoroni–Kipsitet Road upgrade, as well as the Sh200 million investment in Jua Kali shades, supported by the allocation of five acres of land to kick-start the project.

He  said the projects demonstrate the Government’s commitment to improving infrastructure, expanding economic opportunities and raising living standards for residents.
