Ekaterina Handa Celebrates Dr John Khaminwa at 90, Hails His Legacy at the Kenyan Bar

Incoming Judicial Service Commission (JSC) Women Representative Ekaterina Handa has celebrated veteran lawyer Dr. John M. Khaminwa on his 90th birthday, describing him as a towering figure whose contribution to Kenya’s legal profession spans generations.

In her birthday message, Handa praised Khaminwa for his courage, commitment to justice and dedication to defending the rights of Kenyans throughout his long legal career.

She said Khaminwa remains a respected figure at the Kenyan Bar and a mentor whose work has demonstrated that the law is ultimately about people and justice, rather than simply files and courtrooms.

Handa also acknowledged the journey that shaped Khaminwa, from his early years in Masiyenze and education at Musingu and Alliance High School to his legal studies and professional experiences in London, New York and Haverford.

“Today we thank you,” Handa said, celebrating his courage during difficult moments and his role in inspiring generations of lawyers.

She wished the celebrated advocate good health and more years with his family, while also honouring the memory of his late son Albert Shihemi and Hon. Lady Justice Joyce.

Handa concluded her message by describing Khaminwa as “Mzee wa Sheria”, celebrating his enduring legacy within Kenya’s legal profession.
