Christopher Wanga: Dairy Business Offers Investment Opportunities Despite Milk Supply Challenges

 Agribusiness presents significant opportunities for investment in Kenya’s agricultural sector, with the dairy industry offering one of the most promising areas for farmers, entrepreneurs and investors, Christopher Wanga has said.

Speaking during the 6th National Agribusiness Summit, Wanga described agribusiness as a business opportunity within the agricultural sector, noting that the dairy value chain has the potential to support livelihoods and create investment opportunities.

“Dairy business is one of the best,” Wanga said, emphasizing that the sector provides opportunities for people across different stages of the value chain, from milk production to processing, marketing and distribution.

Wanga, however, highlighted the current challenges facing the dairy industry, particularly reduced milk supply, which has affected farmers and other players in the value chain.

He attributed the decline in milk production partly to drought conditions, which have affected livestock productivity and contributed to shortages of animal feeds.

According to Wanga, inadequate availability of quality feeds has made it difficult for farmers to maintain optimal milk production, further contributing to the supply challenges being experienced in the sector.

He said the Government is working to address the challenges affecting milk production and support the dairy sector in overcoming the current difficulties.

Wanga called for continued investment and support across the dairy value chain, noting that addressing challenges such as animal feed shortages will be critical to strengthening milk production and ensuring the sustainability of the sector.

The 6th National Agribusiness Summit brought together stakeholders from government, the private sector, development organisations and the agricultural value chain to discuss ways of strengthening Kenya’s agribusiness ecosystem and unlocking opportunities for investment and growth.
