Swanya Victor Ogeto Pledges Transformative Leadership and Economic Growth in Nyamira

Swanya Victor Ogeto, who is aspiring to become the next Governor of Nyamira County, has pledged to leverage technology, skills development and the county’s agricultural potential to drive economic transformation and create jobs for residents.

Speaking during the Law Society of Kenya (LSK) Conference, Ogeto said modern leadership must embrace emerging technologies, including Artificial Intelligence (AI), to improve decision-making and accelerate development.

He said Nyamira County cannot operate in isolation and requires leaders with the knowledge and capacity to use modern tools to guide development and improve service delivery.

Ogeto also identified corruption as a major obstacle to development, calling for stronger measures to seal financial leakages at both county and national levels.

He said resources saved through fighting corruption should be redirected towards development projects, particularly infrastructure, education and programmes aimed at empowering young people.

According to Ogeto, education should go beyond preparing young people for traditional white-collar employment and instead equip them with practical skills that enable them to create businesses and earn a living.

He said emerging opportunities in information technology, AI-assisted businesses, distribution, financial technology and other sectors could provide young people with sustainable sources of income.

Ogeto further said Nyamira should capitalize on its comparative advantages, particularly its favourable climate and agricultural potential.

He proposed greater investment in modern farming, vegetable production, dairy farming, aggregation, value addition and distribution networks to enable farmers to access larger markets, including outside the county.

“Leadership is not about sitting over people or overseeing poverty. You become a leader so you can elevate, make changes and transform,” Ogeto said.

He said his forthcoming manifesto would outline a comprehensive development agenda focused on transforming the county and improving the livelihoods of residents.

Ogeto also pledged to pursue partnerships between the county government, national government, development partners and international institutions to mobilize resources and technical support for development.

He said cooperatives could play a critical role in improving production and incomes if strengthened through better management, modern technology and cost-effective approaches.

He maintained that a transformative administration would focus on empowering communities, creating employment opportunities and unlocking Nyamira’s economic potential.
