Millicent Omanga Launches Free Sanitary Towels Initiative for Nairobi Schoolgirls
Incoming Nairobi Woman Representative aspirant Millicent Omanga has launched the Free Omanga Care Sanitary Towels Initiative, a countywide programme aimed at ensuring that girls in public primary schools have access to free sanitary towels and remain in school without interruption.
Speaking during the launch at Ainsworth Primary School, where she studied in the 1990s, Omanga described the initiative as a personal mission to give back to the institution that shaped her early years and to support girls facing menstrual hygiene challenges.
She emphasized that no girl should be forced to miss classes because she cannot afford sanitary towels, describing menstrual dignity as a fundamental right that every child deserves.
"This initiative is driven by a simple but powerful belief: no girl should miss school because she cannot afford a sanitary towel. Every young girl deserves the confidence to pursue her education without interruption," Omanga said.
The aspiring Nairobi Woman Representative announced that the programme will be rolled out to all primary schools across Nairobi County, benefiting thousands of learners by providing menstrual hygiene products to help them stay in school, safeguard their health, and pursue their dreams with confidence.
Omanga said the initiative goes beyond the distribution of sanitary towels, noting that it seeks to restore hope, protect the dignity of young girls, and invest in the future of Kenya's children.
"When we empower a girl to stay in school, we empower a family, strengthen a community, and build a stronger nation," she said.
She reaffirmed her commitment to championing policies and partnerships that strengthen schools, uplift children, and expand educational opportunities, adding that leadership should be defined by service, compassion, and action to ensure every child has an equal opportunity to succeed.
