Rose Wanja Hails Peaceful Westlands Madaraka Day Celebration Led by Deputy County Commissioner Mayabi

Westlands Sub-County marked this year’s Madaraka Day celebrations in a peaceful, patriotic, and dignified atmosphere, with community members turning up in large numbers to celebrate Kenya’s freedom and unity despite the absence of elected political leaders.

The celebrations, held in Westlands and led by Deputy County Commissioner (DCC) Mayabi, saw the government representative deliver President William Samoei Ruto’s Madaraka Day speech, emphasizing national unity, development, and responsible citizenship.
In her remarks following the event, Rose Wanja praised the peaceful conduct of residents and hailed Westlands for setting an example of patriotism, order, and national pride.

“No MP, no MCA, no political representatives attended or sent delegates, yet wananchi turned up peacefully, celebrated together, and proved that unity, responsibility, and love for country are more important than political presence,” Rossie Wanja noted.

She said the Madaraka Day celebrations served as a reminder that freedom comes with responsibility, urging Kenyans especially the youth to embrace lawful and peaceful means of expressing concerns while safeguarding national stability.

Rose Wanja encouraged young people to use constitutional channels such as dialogue, peaceful demonstrations, and consultations with authorities whenever grievances arise, warning against manipulation by self-serving politicians seeking to exploit genuine concerns.

“To our youth, you enjoy freedoms fought for by generations before us. Do not allow that freedom to push you into unlawful actions that could cost you your future, liberty, or even life. Your voice is powerful without violence, and meaningful change can be achieved responsibly,” she said.
She further urged young Kenyans to remain vigilant against leaders who attempt to hijack their agenda for political gain, emphasizing that Kenya’s future rests in the hands of a responsible and courageous generation.

Rose  Wanja also extended appreciation to government agencies and officials, Nyumba Kumi leaders, landlords, youth groups, sports teams, matatu SACCOs, and local stakeholders who supported the successful celebrations.

Special recognition was given to Kangemi Fearless led by Michael Kamanu Wangewa, Team G.S under Liz Nimmo Njuguna KE, Nick Murah, Kangemi Allstars FC, Matatu SACCOs in Kangemi Ward, Nyumba Kumi officials, landlords, Summers Winter, and Beryl Elite Experience for their contribution in ensuring the day was memorable, peaceful, and community-centered.
As Kenyans reflected on the meaning of Madaraka, Westlands residents demonstrated that patriotism, peace, and unity remain the foundation of a stronger nation.
