PS Dr. Jane Imbunya Calls for Stronger Partnerships and Innovation to Achieve Universal Water Access by 2063
Principal Secretary for Public Service and Human Capital Development, Dr. Jane Imbunya, has called for stronger partnerships among governments, development partners, the private sector, and local communities to accelerate access to safe water and sanitation across Africa.
Speaking during the Africa Public Service Day (APSD) 2026 celebrations, Dr. Imbunya emphasized the need for collaborative efforts to achieve universal access to clean water and sanitation by 2063, in line with Africa’s Agenda 2063 aspirations. She noted that effective partnerships are essential in addressing water challenges and ensuring that quality services reach all communities.
The Principal Secretary said access to safe water and proper sanitation remains critical in improving public health, promoting economic growth, and enhancing the quality of life for citizens. She urged stakeholders to work together in developing sustainable solutions that will strengthen water security and expand sanitation services.
Dr. Imbunya also highlighted the growing role of innovation in transforming water service delivery. She pointed to solar-powered water systems, smart metering technologies, and modern water treatment solutions as key innovations that can improve access to clean water while enhancing efficiency and sustainability.
According to the PS, embracing technology and innovation will help governments deliver better public services, reduce operational costs, and improve health outcomes for communities. She noted that modern solutions are critical in ensuring reliable and sustainable water services, particularly in underserved areas.
The discussions during APSD 2026 underscored the importance of partnerships, innovation, and effective public service delivery in advancing water security and sanitation goals, while contributing to the realization of Agenda 2063 and sustainable development across the continent.
