Kenya, China Deepen Trade Ties as Construction Machinery Expo Targets Industrial Growth and Investment
The Kenya National Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KNCCI) has rallied Kenyan businesses to take advantage of emerging trade and investment opportunities with China through the upcoming Africa International Construction Machinery Expo Conference 2026, set to take place from June 17 to 19 at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC) in Nairobi.
Speaking during a pre-exhibition media conference on Monday, Richard Ndungu, KNCCI National Chairperson of the Kenya-China (Asia) Trade and Investment Promotion Initiative and Chairman of the KNCCI Kiambu Chapter, described the expo as a major platform for advancing industrialisation, technology transfer, and commercial partnerships under the theme, “Smart Manufacturing for Africa – Building the Future.”
Ndungu said the expo, co-hosted with Hongxing Sparkle Africa International Convention & Exhibition Co. Ltd, will bring together more than 200 leading Chinese manufacturers, creating opportunities for Kenyan enterprises to access modern machinery, innovative technologies, dealership partnerships, and new investment channels.
He noted that the event aligns with Kenya’s industrialisation agenda by promoting access to modern equipment and technological solutions across key sectors including construction, agriculture, manufacturing, mining, logistics and energy. According to Ndungu, such investments are essential in enhancing productivity, reducing operational costs and improving the competitiveness of Kenyan businesses in regional and global markets.
The KNCCI official further highlighted the significance of recent zero-tariff measures for eligible Kenyan exports entering the Chinese market, saying they present a transformative opportunity for local businesses to expand exports of value-added products such as processed agricultural goods, specialty teas and coffees, textiles, leather products and manufactured items.
Ndungu emphasized that Kenya-China trade relations should increasingly focus on boosting Kenyan exports while leveraging Chinese expertise, machinery and investment to accelerate the country's economic transformation and industrial growth.
Beyond trade, the expo is expected to serve as an investment platform fostering joint ventures, local assembly operations, distributorship opportunities, after-sales support services, skills development and strategic partnerships that can create jobs and strengthen local value chains.
He invited manufacturers, contractors, SMEs, investors, developers, farmers and industry professionals to participate in the event and explore opportunities for collaboration, market expansion and technological advancement.
“The Africa International Construction Machinery Expo Conference 2026 is more than an exhibition. It is a platform for partnerships, a catalyst for investment, and a transformative opportunity to position Kenyan enterprises for the next phase of industrial growth and commercial engagement with China,” Ndungu said.
