Gachagua Rejects Budget Estimates and Finance Bill 2026/27, Says They Fail to Reflect Kenyans' Aspirations
Democratic Congress Party (DCP) leader, Rigathi Gachagua, has sharply criticized the Budget Estimates and Finance Bill 2026/27, arguing that the proposals fail to address the real needs, priorities, and aspirations of the Kenyan people.
Speaking on the state of the country's economy and governance, Gachagua said Kenya risks economic stagnation and growing public frustration if national leadership fails to embrace strategic planning, ethical governance, industrialization, and institutional stability.
He maintained that successful nations are built on visionary leadership, intentional production, disciplined governance, strong institutions, and a shared national purpose, which he described as the foundation for sustainable economic growth, job creation, and improved living standards.
"The Budget Estimates and Finance Bill 2026/27 do not reflect the will and aspirations of the people of Kenya. Great nations and great economies are built through strategic and visionary leadership, intentional production, ethical and disciplined leadership, institutional stability, industrialization, and a collective national purpose," Gachagua stated.
The DCP leader warned that the absence of these key pillars could result in rising unemployment, weakened public institutions, declining investor confidence, and increased hardship for ordinary citizens.
Gachagua further called for a transformative economic agenda focused on empowering farmers, supporting local industries, creating employment opportunities for young people, strengthening public institutions, and ensuring prudent management of public resources.
He urged policymakers to prioritize production-driven policies over consumption-based approaches, arguing that sustainable economic growth can only be achieved through increased investment, industrial expansion, and support for local enterprise.
According to Gachagua, economic policies should be people-centered and inclusive, ensuring that the benefits of development are felt by all Kenyans, particularly those struggling with the high cost of living and limited economic opportunities.
As discussions on the Budget Estimates and Finance Bill 2026/27 continue, the opposition leader called on leaders across the political divide to place the interests of wananchi above partisan considerations and work towards a shared vision that advances Kenya's long-term prosperity, competitiveness, and economic resilience.
