Kenya Set to Host Landmark Africa Forward Summit 2026 in Nairobi

Kenya is preparing to host the highly anticipated Africa Forward Summit 2026 in Nairobi from May 11 to May 12, bringing together African leaders, global partners, investors, youth innovators and civil society actors in a major diplomatic and economic gathering aimed at shaping Africa’s future.

The announcement was made by Government Spokesperson Isaac Mwaura during a press briefing held at Lake Naivasha Resort, where he described the summit as a historic moment for both Kenya and the African continent.

According to the statement, the summit will, for the first time, be hosted outside the Francophonie bloc, signaling what Kenya describes as a shift toward more inclusive and Africa-led global partnerships founded on mutual respect, shared prosperity and stronger multilateral cooperation.

President William Ruto is expected to use the summit to champion reforms in global governance and financing systems, while advocating for Africa’s increased representation in international decision-making platforms. The summit comes ahead of France’s 2026 G7 Presidency and is expected to elevate Africa’s priorities on the global stage.

Discussions during the summit will focus on key issues affecting the continent, including climate action, digital transformation, artificial intelligence, peace and security, agriculture, food security, healthcare systems and blue economy development.

The event will also feature business forums, youth innovation platforms, cultural showcases and sports investment discussions linked to Kenya’s preparations for hosting the 2027 AFCON tournament. A major cultural concert at Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani is scheduled for May 12 and will feature international musicians and youth-focused engagement

So far, Kenya has received confirmations from 55 delegations, including 30 Heads of State and Government from across Africa, alongside representatives from organizations such as the African Union,

The summit is expected to culminate in the adoption of the Nairobi Declaration on Africa-France Partnership and unlock new investment opportunities in infrastructure, energy, healthcare, agriculture and digital innovatuon

The government has meanwhile warned Nairobi residents to expect temporary traffic disruptions between May 10 and May 12 along major roads including Mombasa Road, Thika Road, Lang’ata Road, Limuru Road and Kiambu Road due to the movement of visiting dignitaries.
