Secretary General ODM party Catherine Omanyo Urges Kenyans to Read and Understand Finance Bill Before Judging
Secretary General of the Orange Democratic Movement and Busia Woman Representative, Catherine Omanyo, has called on Kenyans to take time to carefully read and understand the Finance Bill before rushing to make conclusions or judgments about its contents.
Speaking on the matter, Omanyo emphasized the importance of informed public debate, noting that many discussions surrounding the Finance Bill are often driven by assumptions, misinformation, or incomplete understanding of the proposed measures. She urged citizens to analyze the document clause by clause in order to appreciate both its potential benefits and areas of concern.
According to the legislator, public participation and criticism remain important in a democratic society, but such conversations should be based on facts and a clear understanding of what the bill proposes. She encouraged Kenyans to engage constructively with leaders, experts, and parliamentary discussions to better understand how the proposed measures could affect livelihoods, taxation, businesses, and government service delivery.
Omanyo further stated that informed civic engagement allows citizens to hold leaders accountable while also contributing meaningful views during public consultations. She stressed that reading and understanding the bill would help the public separate facts from political rhetoric and make objective judgments on issues affecting the economy.
Her remarks come amid growing national debate over the Finance Bill, with political leaders, economists, businesses, and wananchi continuing to express differing opinions on its impact and implementation.
