Kitui Woman Representative, Demands Immediate Security Action in Tseikuru Amid Rising Fear

Grief and fear have gripped Kamaari village in Tseikuru, Kitui County, following a brutal bandit attack that claimed the lives of eight innocent residents and left several others injured and displaced. The tragedy has sparked outrage among leaders and locals, with Kitui Woman Representative Irene Kasalu leading calls for immediate government intervention.
After visiting the affected area, Kasalu expressed deep sorrow over the loss, describing the situation as heartbreaking and unacceptable. She stood in solidarity with grieving families, noting that the scale of violence has pushed the community to the brink.
“This carnage must stop,” she declared, emphasizing that no Kenyan should have to live in constant fear of attacks.
Kasalu revealed that she had mobilized and delivered emergency food supplies to families affected by the but stressed that humanitarian aid alone is not enough. According to her, what the people of Tseikuru urgently need is guaranteed safety and a permanent end to the cycle of violence.
In a strong message directed to Interior Cabinet Secretary Onesimus Kipchumba Murkomen and Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja, the legislator demanded the immediate deployment of sufficient security personnel to restore order and protect lives.
She warned that continued delays in addressing the insecurity could force residents to take matters into their own hands in order to defend their community — a scenario she cautioned could further escalate tensions.
“The government’s primary duty is to protect its citizens. If they fail, our people will have no choice but to defend themselves,” she said firmly.
Local residents, many of whom have been displaced by repeated attacks, echoed her sentiments, calling for urgent and decisive action to prevent further bloodshed. The attack has once again highlighted the persistent insecurity challenges in parts of Kitui County, raising questions about the effectiveness and speed of response from national security agencies.
