Kawaya Hits Out at Uhuru, Notes Fuel at Ksh 196 Per Litre Under Ruto Versus Ksh 230 in Previous Regime, Challenges Past Inaction

Mwala MP Vincent Kawaya has criticized former President Uhuru Kenyatta over past fuel price hikes, questioning his response during his time in office

“Uhuru, when you were president and fuel rose to Ksh 230, did you pay people to take to the streets?” Kawaya posed, arguing that the current situation is markedly different.

He defended the administration of President William Ruto, stating that it has made significant efforts to cushion Kenyans from rising fuel costs. Kawaya noted that prices have dropped to approximately Ksh 196 per litre and are on a downward trend.

The MP further alleged that the ongoing calls for demonstrations over the high cost of living are politically instigated, claiming that certain leaders are mobilizing citizens for ulterior motives rather than genuine public interest.
His remarks come amid heightened political tension and planned demonstrations in parts of the country, with leaders sharply divided over the economic situation and the government’s response.
