Kawaya Hits Back at Wavinya, Denies Political Interference as Row Over Machakos Suppliers Deepens

A fresh political standoff has emerged in Machakos County after Mwala MP Vincent Musyoka Kawaya strongly rebuked Governor Wavinya Ndeti over claims linking him to her administration’s ongoing challenges.

In a strongly worded press statement, Kawaya dismissed the governor’s remarks as “unfounded,” accusing her of dragging his name into county affairs to deflect from internal governance issues. He firmly denied having any interest in the Machakos gubernatorial seat, emphasizing that his focus remains on serving the people of Mwala Constituency and contributing to national development.

The legislator criticized the governor for what he termed as attempts to shift blame, insisting that leadership requires accountability rather than political finger-pointing. He urged Ndeti to address the challenges facing her administration directly instead of engaging in what he described as “political mudslinging.”

At the center of the dispute is a payment controversy involving a local supplier. Kawaya voiced strong support for Sammy Kioko, a young entrepreneur from his constituency, who is reportedly owed approximately KSh 19 million for goods supplied to the county government. The MP called on the county to honor its financial obligations, warning against what he described as bureaucratic delays, intimidation, and alleged demands for kickbacks.

He further urged the Machakos County government to prioritize prompt payment to suppliers, noting that failure to do so risks crippling small businesses and discouraging youth entrepreneurship.

Kawaya concluded by advising Governor Ndeti to focus on delivering development projects and improving service delivery, rather than engaging in political distractions. He reaffirmed his commitment to oversight, accountability, and good governance, maintaining that his role as an MP includes speaking out against poor leadership wherever it occurs.

The exchange signals escalating political tensions in Machakos, with growing scrutiny over governance, financial management, and accountability within the county administration.
