Incoming kitui Governor Makali Mulu Gains Widespread Praise for Transformative Bodaboda Empowerment Initiative in Kitui Central
Makali Mulu, the incoming Governor of Kitui County for 2027, has earned widespread acclaim following a transformative initiative targeting the bodaboda sector in Kitui Central Constituency.
In a bold move aimed at uplifting youth and enhancing road safety, Dr. Mulu fully sponsored 150 bodaboda riders to undergo a comprehensive ten-day ward-based training program. The initiative covered all participation costs, removing financial barriers that often prevent riders from accessing formal training and certification.
The program, which concluded at Kitui Stadium, was facilitated in partnership with the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA). Participants were taken through rigorous training sessions focusing on road safety, traffic regulations, and professional riding standards. The riders also sat for official examinations, positioning them to acquire smart driving licenses upon successful completion.
Beneficiaries of the program lauded Dr. Mulu’s intervention, describing it as a timely and impactful investment in their livelihoods. Many noted that the training not only improved their riding skills but also opened doors to better income opportunities and greater recognition within the transport sector.
“This program has changed our lives. We can now operate with confidence and professionalism,” said one of the riders during the closing ceremony.
Leaders and residents across Kitui County have also praised the initiative, highlighting its role in promoting safer roads, empowering young people, and formalizing the rapidly growing bodaboda industry. The sponsorship is being viewed as part of Dr. Mulu’s broader vision to drive inclusive development and grassroots transformation.
As the 2027 gubernatorial race approaches, such initiatives continue to solidify Makali Mulu’s standing as a leader focused on practical solutions, youth empowerment, and sustainable economic growth in Kitui County.
