During the NEF Africa SDGs Week, experts stressed the importance of accelerating youth inclusion in sustainable development efforts across Africa, as the 2030 deadline for achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) rapidly approaches.

Eng. Erick Ohaga, Director of Nuclear Energy Infrastructure Development, underscored the urgency, pointing out that only six years remain to meet the 17 SDGs. He called for intensified efforts to address youth issues and expressed concern over the current slow progress.

“Kenya must mobilize its youth to drive faster progress on the SDGs. While some advances have been made, much more remains to be done,” Ohaga said.
Eng. Grace Nzivo, Kenyan Ambassador for the Next Einstein Forum and NuPEA, emphasized the vital role of young people, particularly in the energy sector. She urged for greater youth involvement in renewable energy innovations like solar and wind power, stating that their participation is crucial to ensuring sustainable energy for all.

Youth-driven innovation in the manufacturing and agriculture sectors was also spotlighted. Experts noted that young innovators are essential for Kenya's industrial and agricultural development, contributing to economic growth and sustainable food systems, especially in rural areas.

“Young people are eager to shape their future, especially in areas like agriculture and technological innovation. It's time for organizations and experts to integrate youth into every aspect of development planning,” Nzivo added.

The week’s discussions highlighted that youth inclusion is not just a moral obligation but a strategic imperative if Africa is to meet its SDG targets by 2030.
