Mwingi west MP Charles Nguna Flags Off Ksh 67 Million Bursary for 11,454 Students in Mwingi West

Charles Nguna, the Member of Parliament for Mwingi West, has officially flagged off the disbursement of Ksh 67 million in bursary funds for the 2025/2026 Financial Year, benefiting 11,454 students across the constituency.

The event, held at Migwani Boys Secondary School, brought together all Mwingi West Constituency secondary school principals and Sub-County Education Officers. The meeting marked a significant milestone in the constituency’s ongoing commitment to expanding access to education and easing the financial burden on families.

Speaking during the ceremony, Nguna reaffirmed his dedication to supporting learners from vulnerable and disadvantaged backgrounds, emphasizing that education remains the most powerful tool for transforming lives and uplifting communities.
“This bursary program is aimed at ensuring no child from Mwingi West misses out on education due to financial constraints. We are committed to supporting our students at all levels,” the MP said.
Breakdown of Bursary Allocation
At the tertiary level, students will benefit as follows:
University (Normal): Ksh 6,000
University (Special): Ksh 8,000
Vocational (Normal): Ksh 3,000
Vocational (Special): Ksh 5,000
Colleges (Normal): Ksh 4,500
Colleges (Special): Ksh 6,000
For secondary and primary education:
Boarding Schools: Ksh 5,000
Secondary (Special): Ksh 7,000
Secondary Day Schools: Ksh 3,500
Primary (Special Schools): Ksh 8,000

A total of 11,454 students are set to benefit from the bursary scheme, with funds targeting learners in secondary schools, tertiary institutions, vocational centers, colleges, and special schools.
Nguna also confirmed that cheques for tertiary institutions and secondary schools located outside the constituency will be dispatched directly to the respective institutions without delay to ensure seamless processing.

Education stakeholders present lauded the initiative, noting that timely disbursement of bursaries plays a critical role in improving school attendance, retention, and academic performance.

The bursary program forms part of Nguna’s broader development agenda focused on education empowerment, youth advancement, and equitable access to learning opportunities in Mwingi West.
