Kisumu Deputy Governor Owili Urges ODM Unity, Calls for Dialogue to Protect Raila’s Legacy

Kisumu Deputy Governor Matthews Owili has called on members of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) to embrace dialogue, unity, and mutual respect as the party navigates internal differences and prepares for future political engagements.

Speaking during a consultative meeting with grassroots leaders and party officials in Kisumu, Dr. Owili emphasized that unity remains the party’s strongest pillar and warned that internal wrangles risk weakening the movement’s influence and legacy.

He urged party members to honor the political ideals and legacy established by ODM leader Raila Odinga, noting that the party’s strength has always been rooted in inclusivity, democratic engagement, and collective decision-making.
“ODM was built on the principles of justice, equity, and the voice of the people. We must remain united and resolve our differences through 
 dialogue rather than division,” Owili said.

The deputy governor stressed that disagreements are natural within a democratic party but insisted they should be addressed through structured engagement and respect for party organs.
Owili further encouraged leaders to prioritize grassroots concerns and maintain focus on development, service delivery, and defending democratic gains, rather than engaging in factional politics.

His remarks come at a time when political realignments and succession debates are emerging within the party, raising concerns among supporters about cohesion and the future direction of ODM.

Local leaders present at the meeting echoed Owili’s sentiments, calling for calm and urging members to safeguard the party’s unity as it continues to champion social justice and democratic governance.
Observers note that the call for unity reflects growing efforts by ODM leaders to maintain stability and strengthen the party’s internal cohesion ahead of upcoming political milestones.
